It’s a question that has the power to stop me in my obsessive tracks. . If I can stop struggling with circumstances long enough to hear the question, and quiet the mind, as Zen master Suzuki Roshi is probably getting at here, I do find that not only a great peace has room to arise, but also a deep appreciation of what is here.
As John Lennon said, “Life is what happens while you are making other plans.” Or, I might add, while I’m wishing I had a boyfriend, or a better job, or more self-discipline. And so, I bring myself back to this moment, so as not to miss my life.
It is from this place of now that I intend to write. We’ll see what emerges.
